Continuity of a design
The ombré dark grey dial features a coloured centre that gradually fades to a deep black on the edges. This dial style represents continuity with a design that Rolex introduced in the 1980s and returned to in 2019.

The production of these dials with concentric gradients involves the application of black lacquer – a sophisticated technique overseen by a specialist whose job is to ensure a harmonious transition of colour to gradually darkening tones.

Over time, the notch has become a highly aesthetic detail, worthy of being a distinctive Rolex style element. Today, the notch is made of gold and has become a distinctive feature of this Datejust 31 model.
